Hello everyone! It is 2018 and this will be the first time I am officially launching a photography blog. I have dabbled with writing one in the past but I have been primarily focused on gaining experience and getting a solid website running (thanks to the talented Norman Pemper and my husband Andrew for putting it together). Now, I am excited to be setting aside some time to write and share my experience shooting. At the present time, I will be focused on lifestyle photo sessions, how I prepare and set up photographs within the session and promoting any upcoming work. All that being said…here is my first newborn session of this year.

I first met the expectant parents last fall at Endicott Park where I was hosting fall sessions. They were very easy going and really wanted the shots to be natural. I told them they picked the right girl for this. 🙂 During our shoot, I had learned how they were preparing for the baby and how excited they were for he or she to join their family. You could just tell they had a great bond and they just looked so happy to become parents.

Fast forward to December and their sweet son was born just a few days before Christmas. I was excited when the new mom reached out to me and asked me to come to their home and photograph them as a family. I won’t deny how much I love babies. Their tiny features, their baby smell, etc. That being said, I was definitely happy I could meet him in person.

In preparation for their shoot, I asked the mom if she could kindly send me some shots of any rooms with natural light. This was the best way for me to prepare and set up at their home. She happily obliged. When the day arrived, it was one of the most frigid days so I was happy to be traveling to them so the baby would stay nice and warm in the comfort of his own home. Their home was cozy and the location was PERFECT!! The sun was bright and they had many windows with SO MUCH NATURAL LIGHT!!  I set up in the living room area first on the couch and just used a couple of blankets for the individual shots of the baby.   Isn’t he the cutest??

We then headed upstairs and I got a few shots with the parents individually in the nursery. They had a beautiful glider and a door with a horizontal window so I pulled the glider close to the window to set up these shots of them snuggling with their little guy.

We returned downstairs for a few family shots. They had a few big windows in their dining room so I just had them stand near the window while holding the baby. I really liked the look with the blown out highlights in the background. It is a very light, airy and gives the images a whimsical kind of look. As you can see here, the baby felt the most comfortable in his parent’s arms and I honestly can’t blame him. His expression in each of the photographs just melt my heart. And the look of love in both his parent’s eyes while holding him was just undeniable.  How can I not love capturing moments like this? !   Thanks again to this sweet family for having me!!
